A higher-resolution panel needs more bandwidth, which means it often uses a different connector (for example eDP 40-pin instead of 30-pin) and requires the laptop’s display controller and firmware to support it. Even when it physically plugs in, the laptop may not drive a panel it was never designed for.

Resolution and refresh rate go together
